Abstract

The article is concerned with a set of documents dealing with a so far poorly explored period in the history of Moscow Oriental Studies which embraces the time when political regimes changed (1917–1920). These materials which are published for the first time give us an idea about hard circumstances under which the Lazarev Institute existed over these several years. They also help trace the stages of its transformation and shed light on the role of Saint Petersburg scholars seeking to maintain the traditions of Moscow Oriental Studies.
